It’s a steal:
I was invited along to a ‘design tourism’ symposium on Wednesday. It occurred to me there that ‘serious games’ could link up with tourism promotion, perhaps through re-creating a place as a game-like 3D environment. Getting to know a location beforehand, by ‘walking’ freely around it, would later make for a far less stressful and more interesting actual visit. And then I though… could a place be “stolen”? I think it could. A team of people with sonic tape-measures, sketchbooks and digital camera s could “steal” a good chunk of the raw information needed to recreate a place inside a computer. They might then need to go back a few times, to “fill in the gaps”, but would end up with something moderately accurate.
