In Birmingham’s Highbury Park on 2nd October 08…
“The Woods Project is a promenade performance in the woods at nightfall. Guided by torchlight, the audience encounter characters who are themselves journeying through the woods. [...] Director Jane Packman and the Woods Project team will be working in Highbury Park during September to create a promenade performance in the park at nightfall. We invite you to a “work-in-progess showing” on Thursday 2nd October 2008 at 7pm, to see the work so far. Please wear sturdy footwear. We will guide you by torchlight around Highbury, encountering stories and characters as we go.”
These sorts of things are usually wonderful, if difficult to photograph. Do not use flash; your pictures will look awful, and your idiocy will ruin the night-time ambience for other people. Set a high ISO in your camera, steady your hand, and wedge the camera steady against tree-trunks and the like. Live with the blur and the grain.
I’ll always remember the superb Sept 2000 Charge/Out of Darkness one-night-only show of light-installations and performance in West Park in Wolverhampton…
