Fans and coders for the WordPress blogging software (it runs this blog) have our first UK WordCamp event…

“We’re aiming for Saturday and Sunday 19th-20th July 2008 in Birmingham, and we’re currently looking for a suitable venue.”

Birmingham city-centre’s patchy wi-fi might seem to rule out many venues, but I note that the University of Birmingham is now installing new campus-wide wi-fi, which might make it a suitable venue, especially as it allows up to 100 connections to each access point. Although I’m told the wi-fi there has to be switched off completely when Labour ministers visit the Uni.

Or possibly WordCamp could be co-located with the July 08 (date TBC) LugRadio 08 for added synergy? Especially as Brum will be competing with the more alluring SocialMediaCamp, down in London, on the same weekend…

“covering topics surrounding blogs, podcasts, moblogs, community, using new media cleverly, marketing ethics, social networks now and in the future.”
