More on the arts cuts

Filed under: Artist(s), Arts cuts, Stoke-on-Trent — site admin @ in the early afternoon

More press coverage of the 20% arts cuts is leaking out…

“England’s arts face bloodiest cull in half a century”.

“Funding cut hits London’s arts groups”.

“Cash warning from Arts Council” (in Northern Ireland)… “Around 200 jobs and thousands of programmes are at risk”.

Arts Professional reports today that… “On Friday, The Arts Council of Wales issued a warning of forthcoming cuts to its portfolio of Regularly Funded Organisations”

…and at a local level, Stoke-on-Trent City Council has announced… “a £500,000 cut in the funding the council gives to museums and libraries”. Three jobs were axed at the city’s main museum & art gallery in summer 07. At that time, the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLAC) “said it believed a further 14 jobs could be cut at the museum”.

Oh; and 40 libraries closed in the UK in 2007.
