Boris Johnson, on bicycle thieves. Spot on.

“There are only a million regular cyclists in this country, and yet there were 439,000 bicycles stolen last year, and that is just the ones reported stolen.”

Among his suggestions are “honeypot” entrapment bikes, placed so to get the thieves on multi-angle CCTV. And a clampdown on the criminal middlemen, often tatty second-hand shops or backstreet garages that have recently started a sideline in ‘used’ bikes. A satellite-trackable pod hidden down inside the seat-tube is also a good idea, for expensive bikes, and I already have one in mine as a condition of my bicycle’s insurance.
