The Event

Filed under: Artist(s), Birmingham — site admin @ in the early evening

It seems that a Birmingham visual artists’ expo is rather like a bus. You wait ages for one, and then along come five at once. As well as the Birmingham Open, New Art Birmingham, Fused’s LTD Edition art fair, and New Generation, now Birmingham has… The Event. Which is…

“A series of artist-run activities in permanent and temporary spaces throughout central Birmingham. … [ with a ] Launch Party on Sat 31st March 07, 6pm to 9pm, Curzon Street Station, Digbeth (opposite Millennium Point).”

It then runs from 31st Mar – 15th Apr 07, with events provided by: a.a.s., Capital Art Projects, Colony, [insertspace], BIAD’s International Project Space, Modulate, Periscope, 7inch Cinema, Spectacle, and the Springhill Institute.

One thing is certain. It is a paradox. One of the most socially and economically deprived council wards [city sections] in Birmingham, Five Ways also provides office and apartment space for the new affluent section of Birmingham society that likes to work and party hard and spends a lot of money doing both.” [...]
