LTD Edition art fair
Birmingham’s Fused magazine is looking for artists to take part in their “LTD Edition” 3-day Birmingham art market. No venue yet, but it’ll be a fringe event for New Art Birmingham (deadline now passed, it seems to be set to be held somewhere in the vicinity of Millenium Point?). LTD Edition will be held on the 16th, 17th and 18th of March 07. And they say… “No commission will be charged at the art market, with all sale profits going direct to the artist.” The price is just £10 per table/stand; but getting one is competitive, not “all comers accepted”. Deadline: 09.02.07. Applications forms and details (like; is it “Birmingham-based artists only?”) from: kerry@fusedmagazine.com
And LTD Edition should also blend nicely with the Birmingham Open show (opening 10th Feb 07) at the Gas Hall, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery — visitors to Birmingham should be able to walk between the Birmingham Open, LTD Edition and New Art Birmingham on Saturday 17th March 07. Perhaps some kind soul will put a simple printable combined map/details online?
Talking of Birmingham; I can’t help thinking that all the empty retail space in the city centre (especially Corporation Street, where shops like Virgin and Jade have been empty for over a year), might usefully be turned into short term window-display space for Midlands artists, rather than having passers-by see fading tatty “sale” posters and empty dusty shopfittings. The vacancies are the result not simply of the new Bull Ring pulling away trade, but of the fact that Birmingham’s commercial rents are now (amazingly) reported to be more expensive then in central New York or Hong Kong. And I can’t help thinking that that is a factor of “rip-off Britain”.
