Midlands name-checks:
A quick round-up of West Midlands creative ‘movers & shakers’ and their doings…. My friend Mark Holloway is giving a talk at the quarterly Animators Forum held at Wolverhampton Light House (6.20pm onwards, free) on Wednesday 23rd Oct 2002, where you can also meet Sarah Lewis from Hereford’s Rural Media Company; she’ll be looking for four trainee animators to work on projects based in rural schools. Long-time Brummie new-media impressario Jake Grimley has a new enterprise, Made Media Ltd, which launches in style at The Custard Factory on the 1st of November, offering nifty stuff like user-edited content-management web databases and DVD authoring. My friends Nigel & Sabine are having their film 24/7 (dramatised real-life stories of young mums) screened on Sky Digital’s ‘Community Channel’ (684) for one week, every day, from Sunday 20th October. Sabine also asks me to tell people that the graffiti artist from Intervention now has a new web-site at www.shok1.com. Phil writes to say that he’s hooked up with the Mead Gallery at Warwick, to premiere File, an audio CD of artist’s soundworks “reflecting facets of urban experience”. He’s accepting initial sonic submissions on CD from now until 16th November, and File will launch at the Mead on 17th January 2003. If you want to hear what the earlier File CD sounded like, they’re on sale at the Ikon Gallery’s shop in Birmingham. And the Mark writes to say that Badger Promotions is putting together a large music-scene report/directory which aims to…. “document everyone and everything to do with new live music in the West Midlands area”.
