Three new art galleries planned for Birmingham city centre. To be based around the terminus of the branch line that may serve HS2 (High Speed Rail), a major train line that could pass to the east of Birmingham at some point in the future.

“the Curzon Street railway station buildings could house a museum of photography.”

That sounds fab. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait until the first shuttle trains pull into the new HS2 station before some of this can get underway. We certainly have 19th / 20th century people from the West Midlands who it could feature, and of course the huge photography collection at the Library.

There would also be an Ikon 2, and a “big names” gallery of 20th century art similar to Walsall. It might also be interesting to see the Initial Access collection moved down the road to Birmingham?
