It has to be not valuable enough to be stolen, either. No giant crystal skulls, a la science fiction stories. Even stone is valuable, as the destruction of many of our megalithic monuments to make farm gate-posts showed.

In other long-term news, the 10,000 year clock has a website alongside the existing one for the Long Now Foundation. The JCB’s have been helicoptered onto the mountain they purchased for the clock site, and they have started work. Nearer to home, you can see the first prototype on display in the Science Museum, London.
