Fear, Horror and Terror at The Interface, a major two-day conference at Oxford in September 2011. By interface they mean “at the interface of fear, horror and terror”, rather than that such might be implicit in the web/digital/software/games interface that sits between the user and the Web/virtual-world. Although they do also say that…

“We are also looking towards a ‘track’ theme in the area of the relationship between fear, horror and terror and the audio-visual (sight/sound/silence) this year.”

So if you do have ideas on how games can convey a sense of horror and fear through appearing to allow the monsters to ‘reach through’ into the HUD, etc, they might be interested. Proposal deadline: 25th March 2011.
