I’ve been listening to a lot of early golden-age Caribbean reggae recently (Roots of Reggae vol.3 is an outstanding album to start with), so thanks to Spaghetti Gazetti for drawing my attention to the new 90 minute BBC Four documentary titled Reggae Britannia, which tells the later story in the UK…

“Documentary about reggae’s influence on British music and society, featuring Big Youth, Max Romeo, Linton Kwesi Johnson, the Specials, Dennis Bovell, Aswad, Steel Pulse and more.”

Not sure how long this is going to stay around for — many BBC ‘listen again’ programmes vanish into the vaults after seven days, never to be seen again. And those visiting the site from outside the UK may be blocked.

Also available on U.S. import is the 2010 feature documentary Rocksteady: The Roots of Reggae (Amazon UK link) and the excellent Dub Echoes documentary.
